The 3 big operating systems in the world of smartphones are always trying to outdo each other. Let’s see what each OS’s ‘ultimate’ phone is like.

Sony Ericsson Idou

Symbian Touch evolves in the Sony Ericsson Idou. There’s a reason for that statement: the Sony Ericsson Idou is the first ever handset to use Version 5.1 of the Symbian OS, and boy does it show. Fuse that together with a sleek, touch-friendly front-end, and it add up to the Sony Ericsson Idou being, very probably, the slickest Symbian phone yet produced. That’s not its big killer feature, however, since THAT comes in the form of the Sony Ericsson Idou’s camera, which weighs in at a mind-boggling 12 megapixels. Because of its huge camera and the amazing interface, as well as media playback and social networking better than we’ve yet seen on a phone, the Sony Ericsson Idou has to be one of the coolest phones ever to be produced!

HTC Magic

Android is trying to take over the world, and its new home is the beautiful HTC Magic. It has all the good stuff that made the first Android phone (the G1) good, but puts it all in a touchscreen-only body, which is both sleek and sexy. Since the keyboard has been removed, the HTC Magic also has a full, onscreen keyboard, a first for any Android phone, lining it up as a direct rival to the iPhone. You also get the Android Marketplace, which lets you download and install third party apps to your HTC Magic, and it ends up creating a smartphone that really can morph into whatever you want it to be. It really is a kind of magic; it’s the HTC Magic.

Toshiba TG01

So, on the Symbian front, you have the Sony Ericsson Idou, wowing us with that enormous camera. In terms of Android, there’s the HTC Magic, with the superb Android Marketplace. But Windows Mobile goes down a different route. You see, Windows Mobile needs two things to run at its best: a powerful processor and a big display. Well, say hello to the Toshiba TG01, the phone with the fastest processor AND the biggest display in the history of phones! Weighing in at 1GHz and 4.1 inches respectively, those specs mean that the Toshiba TG01 will run Windows Mobile more smoothly than any other phone in existence; as well as that with that immense screen, the Toshiba TG01 makes drilling down into menus, and actually getting into the internals of Windows, so much easier. If power is your thing (and lets be honest, who doesn’t want a powerful phone?), then the Toshiba TG01 is the phone for you!

Let’s take a look at three of the hottest smartphones available on the market, and see whether Windows Mobile, Maemo or WebOS is the OS to buy.

HTC HD2

If you’re talking big screens, there’s no way you can avoid the HTC HD2, because it holds the record for the biggest screen seen on a mobile phone. At a huge 4.3 inches, it is truly vast, and the high, 800×480 resolution makes it genuinely easy to use things like scrollbars in menus. However, the HTC HD2 actually does a very good job of making it so you don’t have to go into standard Windows menus that often, as on top of the operating system, the interface is HTC’s patented TouchFLO 3D setup, where everything is achieved through various finger swipes and sweeping gestures. It is truly intuitive, and it (along with the truly awesome 1GHz Snapdragon processor) is the reason why the HTC HD2 is such an unmitigated joy to use. Of course, it’s not all about being pretty, a phone needs to have decent features and the HTC HD2 has them in spades, from the 5 megapixel camera, through GPS, to incredibly fast HSDPA internet access (not to mention the superb Opera Mobile web browser). To a lot of people, the HTC HD2 is the best Windows Mobile ever made…

Nokia N900

Nokia’s latest smartphone if the first in a new breed; it’s the first phone ever to use the new Maemo interface (previously seen in Nokia’s internet tablet range). Say hello to the Nokia N900. That Maemo OS gives the Nokia N900 a finger friendly interface, and on top of that, the phone has a built in QWERTY keyboard, so it has more ways to access the phone than ever before. It’s not just about the interface, though, as the Nokia N900 is packed with high-end features. A 5 megapixel camera makes for superb photos, the multimedia playback is stunning, and with HSDPA and GPS, the Nokia N900 certainly isn’t short of connectivity options.

Palm Pre

So, the Nokia N900 offers the brilliant, open source Maemo OS, and the HTC HD2 offers the best screen and processor in the business. And since Palm have been around for years, one must ask: what does the Palm Pre offer that’s different? Well, one could talk about the WebOS interface it uses, as it’s unique in the annals of phone history. And indeed, there’s one feature of WebOS, directly related to the keyboard, that makes the Palm Pre so cool. Universal search. Now, many phones do that, but the Palm Pre does it so much more cleverly. Just start typing what you want to know about, from the front screen, and the Palm Pre will search your contacts, apps, music, pictures, and even the internet, to interpret and find what you’re looking for. That really is a cool feature, and it may well make the Palm Pre the coolest QWERTY phone out there. If you value the interface above all else, the Palm Pre is the phone for you.

Let’s take a look at three of the newest or upcoming smartphones, to see which can win in the battle between Windows Mobile, Symbian and the newcomer, WebOS.

HTC Touch Diamond2

The HTC Touch Diamond2 actually does a very good job of making it so you don’t have to go into standard Windows menus that often, as on top of the operating system, the interface is HTC’s patented TouchFLO 3D setup, where everything is achieved through various finger swipes and sweeping gestures. It is truly intuitive, and it’s the reason why the HTC Touch Diamond2 is such an unmitigated joy to use. Of course, it’s not all about being pretty, a phone needs to have decent features and the HTC Touch Diamond2 has them in spades, from the 5 megapixel camera, through GPS, to incredibly fast HSDPA internet access (not to mention the superb Opera Mobile web browser). To many, the HTC Touch Diamond2 is the ultimate Windows Mobile phone.

Samsung i8910 HD

Sitting right at the top of Samsung’s product range, there’s the awesome Samsung i8910 HD. It doesn’t just have the looks. It doesn’t just have an 8MP camera. The Samsung i8910 HD is a true smartphone, using the powerful Symbian OS. On top of that, though, it has a 3D version of the TouchWiz UI, making it simply incredible to use. And finally, there’s the Samsung i8910 HD’s party piece: its camera doesn’t just take phenomenal photos; you see, the Samsung i8910 HD is also the first phone in history to record true HD video. It really is as powerful as phones come, and if you want an uncompromising smartphone, with just about every bell and whistle imaginable, you need the Samsung i8910 HD.

Palm Pre

So, there’s the HTC Touch Diamond2, which takes Windows Mobile to new heights. And then, there’s the Samsung i8910 HD, which wows you with its Symbian OS and its HD video recording. What does the Palm Pre offer that’s different?

Windows Mobile has evolved in leaps and bounds since its earlier, not-so-user-friendly incarnations in the past. Let’s take a look at an upcoming phone that will set the WinMo world alight, and see what competition it faces.

Toshiba TG01 – the basics

Windows Mobile haven’t been resting on their laurels, and the new fruit of their labours is the ultra-powerful Toshiba TG01. Not only does it have the biggest screen ever seen on a mobile phone, measuring in at 4.1 inches, but the Toshiba TG01 also has the most powerful processor put into a mobile phone. Dubbed Snapdragon, the 1GHz processor gives the Toshiba TG01 power, and lots of it, and since that’s what’s needed to let Windows Mobile live up to its full potential, the Toshiba TG01 is arguably the best WinMo phone that’s ever been announced.

One thing’s for sure, though, the Toshiba TG01 is definitely the most powerful.

HTC Magic – the open source challenger

What does the HTC Magic bring to the party, that will allow it to compete on a level playing field, and give it an edge. The answer can be summed up in one word: Android. It’s Google’s Android OS that gives the HTC Magic its undeniable power. Make no mistake, Android is right on the cutting edge of interfaces, by being completely open source, letting anyone and everyone code software for it. Quite literally, if someone can dream up an app for the HTC Magic, then you can get it, whether it be a version of Pacman, or a barcode reader, that can scan products barcodes, then find you the best deal, either on the internet, or using GPS to find the nearest shop to you that sells what you’re after.

It’s things like that which make the HTC Magic so compelling, and along with the tightest integration with Google’s whole suite of apps, maps and email clients, it makes the HTC Magic a true force to be reckoned with.

Sony Ericsson Idou – the Symbian challenger

However, the fight isn’t over yet, because the Sony Ericsson Idou is out to steal its crown. This features Symbian S60 Touch, although the design is still reminiscent of both the HTC Magic and the Toshiba TG01, as it lacks a keyboard. That’s not going to be an issue, though, because the interface on the Sony Ericsson Idou, a custom design by Sony Ericsson, is one of the nicest, most finger-friendly UIs in a long time. It really is hard to decide which of these three phones is the best, but there’s one factor that may swing it; there’s one hardware feature that the Sony Ericsson Idou outdoes both phones on. It’s the first phone announced for the UK to come with an immense twelve megapixel camera, and as such, it may well be, not just the camera phone of the year, but the best camera phone in the history of mobile phones. Whether it will be as a good an all-round smartphone as the Toshiba TG01, though, remains to be seen…

The mobile landscape is changing, as manufacturers wake up to the fact that users want their phones to have a simple, sleek interface. Let’s take a look at three of the best mobile phone interfaces, currently (or soon to be) on the market.

HTC Hero

The first important fact about the HTC Hero, and the bit that has made it so talked about, is its operating system: Google Android. As it’s only the second phone to officially go on sale using Android, the HTC Hero has garnered an awful lot of trade and consumer interest. Even more importantly, the HTC Hero is the first Android phone to feature a keyboard-less, touchscreen-only design, a thing that seems to be all the rage in 2009. It’s certainly more of a looker than its predecessors, the G1 and the Magic (thanks to the beautiful new Sense interface), and that fusion of enhanced looks and the still-awesome power of Android makes the HTC Hero a very compelling phone indeed. If innovation is your thing, this is the phone for you.

Palm Pre

So, there’s the HTC Touch Diamond2, with TouchFLO 3D, sitting atop Windows Mobile. And then, there’s the HTC Hero, which gives Android a new interface. What does the Palm Pre offer that’s different?

The mobile OS is the central key to making a truly great smartphone. Let’s check out the big three operating systems in the mobile arena.

HTC Magic – the basics

The first important fact about the HTC Magic, and the bit that has made it so talked about, is its operating system: Google Android. As it’s only the second phone to officially go on sale using Android, the HTC Magic has garnered an awful lot of trade and consumer interest. Even more importantly, the HTC Magic is the first Android phone to feature a keyboard-less, touchscreen-only design, a thing that seems to be all the rage in 2009. It’s certainly more of a looker than its predecessor, the G1, and that fusion of enhanced looks and the still-awesome power of Android makes the HTC Magic a very compelling phone indeed. If innovation is your thing, this is the phone for you.

Samsung i8910 HD

However, if video is more your thing, another phone easily beats the HTC Magic (and every other phone out there): the Samsung i8910 HD. The HD on the end of the name isn’t just there for show, it signifies that the Samsung i8910 HD is the first phone in history that can record 720p HD-Video. Conveniently, that’s the same definition Youtube shows its high-def videos at, so is it possible that the Samsung i8910 HD is actually the perfect HD Youtube phone? Time will tell, but one thing is certain; the Samsung i8910 HD is the best phone to get if you want the best camera.

Toshiba TG01

So, on the Symbian front, you have the Samsung i8910 HD, with its frighteningly powerful camera and video. As for Android, there’s the innovative HTC Magic.

Author:

There’s an adventurer in every one of us. Free yours and enjoy the outstanding experience of playing Arvale II – Ocean of Time 4.0, which will be your gateway to a world of valor and great deeds. Your fate and the fate of the world are in your hands!

There’s an adventurer in every one of us. Free yours and enjoy the outstanding experience of playing Arvale II – Ocean of Time 4.0, which will be your gateway to a world of valor and great deeds. Your fate and the fate of the world are in your hands!

No spoiling here, but the plot of this captivating game is Epic from a capital letter, involving powerful gods and goddesses, time travel and, of course, saving the world. The story begins and develops in a vast World of Arvale composed of eight different continents each with its peculiar climate, geographical conditions and settlements. The amazingly beautiful and very detailed world is a true pearl of this Pocket PC game – try not to forget about the actual quest when marveling at the picturesque views!

But the World of Arvale is definitely more than just a beautiful decor. It is a living world with its own stories and riddles. The man you accidentally meet in a village may turn out to be an outcast lord from another continent, and what looks like an ordinary stick may actually be a mage staff lost ages ago and now recovered by you. Interact with more than 500 NPCs and hundreds of objects to get to know the story of this enthralling world. Cut scenes unveiling some parts of the plot will help you find your bearings and decide on what to do next.

The game is tightly packed with action: apart from the main line, there are lots of side quests and additional puzzles. Travel through space and time, engage in various games of destiny and feel the true freedom of an adventure. Your fate depends on the path you choose, and so does the ending of the game. Fighting monsters and villains, rescuing princesses and collecting ancient artifacts – the whole epic hero pack of activities in one game on your PDA!

All the diamonds and pearls of the plot and gameplay are artfully set into a mount of wonderful visual and sound effects. Hear the whistle of the wind in the rich green leaves and enjoy the ambience of the game environment with more than 125 sound effects and a total of 27 soundtracks. The vivid colours of the game and amazing visual effects will make you want to play again and again – luckily, there are three levels of difficulty to choose from.

Compatible with all current Pocket PCs, this version requires a Windows Mobile 2003 or newer device. Thousands of users have already tried the game; join them by downloading a trial version to lift the veil of mystery covering the story and come back for the full version.
An immense world that has its own spirit awaits a hero that will take the challenge and face the evil in the greatest battle of all. This game is definitely worth the 40 hours (or even more) you’ll spend glued to your Pocket PC as well as the money it costs.
