Nowadays, our the mobile phone are so important to us that its hard to picture life without them. However, they are a relatively new invention. this article examines the history of the mobile phone & questions what the future holds for it.

Mobile phones started life as the two-way radio, which was also called mobile rigs. these were installed in vehicles such as taxi cabs, police cars & ambulances, but were not strictly mobile phones because they weren’t normally connected to the telephone network. while the earliest mobile phones were installed permanently in vehicles, later versions such as the transportables, also called bag phones, could also be carried, & could be used as either mobile or as portable two-way radios.

The first mobile phones were called first generation phones, also referred to as 1g. The 1-g reign lasted from the late seventies through to the eighties. these devices were the very first genuine mobile phones, although they were then named cellular mobile radio telephones, and were based on analogue signals. the analogue signal would be the main difference between these first generation mobile phones and their second generation cousins, which emerged a while later.

The earliest second generation mobile phones were commercially launched in finland in 1991. While 2-g networks were totally digital, the previous 1g networks were analog. one of the main benefits that 2-g networks had over their 1-g predecessors was that telephone conversations were digitally encrypted. This was serious as third parties could to eavesdrop on phone calls on analog networks. in addition to this, 2-g systems were significantly more efficient, which allowed far more mobile phones to be used. Finally, 2-g introduced data services for mobile, including sms text messages.

After 2-g mobile phones were launched, the earlier mobile phone systems were dubbed 1-g. whilst radio signalling on 1-g networks are analog, and on 2-g networks they’re digital, both systems use digital signaling to link the radio towers and the rest of the phone system.

The first pre-commercial 3g mobile telephone network was launched in japan in may of 2001. later, 3g was commercially released in Japan on 1st october 2001.

3g is the third generation of mobile phone standards & technology, which is the successor to 2g technology. the arrival of 3-g technologies enabled network operators for instance orange to give their users a larger range of more advanced services. This includes broadband wireless internet, in addition to high-tech video calls.

Despite the success of 3g, there’s also been a number of complaints about it. These include criticism over the cost of 3-g phones, a lack of network coverage because it’s still a relatively new service & the amount of power that 3g phones use.

We hope our article has let you know more about the mobile phone’s history. As you’ve probably guessed, the mobile telephone’s come a long way & will probably continue to go on further still.

4-g technology will certainly give the mobile phone a new lease of life, offering the potential to stream live tv & radio shows and much more. For the mobile phone, it’s clear that the sky’s the limit.
